Mid Coast Health Services Opens Primary Care and Walk-In Clinic in Downtown Brunswick | Business
Less than a year after the announcement of its expansion plans, Mid Coast Health Services is proud to open its brand new Mid Coast Primary Care and Walk-In Clinic, Downtown at Brunswick Station. The 10,000 square-foot facility is situated on the first floor of Brunswick Station’s newest building on Station Avenue.
Lois Skillings, President and CEO of Mid Coast Health Services said, “The new downtown location is well situated for the region’s first non-emergency Walk-In Clinic. We are pleased to offer this new service to the community as we further our commitment to maintaining excellent quality, easily accessible care, close to home.”
“With the success of revitalization efforts, Brunswick has become a regional destination,” said Stephanie Slocum, Executive Director of the Brunswick Downtown Association. “This expansion of Mid Coast to Downtown Brunswick will provide our community with the convenience of vital day-to-day services.”
The Walk-In Clinic is intended for people of all ages who have minor medical problems and are unable to see their owndoctor, or do not have a primary care provider. “This represents a major first step toward Mid Coast Health Services’ 2020 Vision to improve the health of our population, enhance the patient experience, and reduce the cost of care,“ said Dr. Scott Mills, Mid Coast’s Vice President of Medical Staff Administration and Chief Medical Officer. “Patients will save money coming to the Walk-In Clinic. Fees at the clinic are lower than those charged at an emergency room.”
The Walk-In Clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.
Mid Coast’s Adult Primary Care, formerly on the main campus of Mid Coast Hospital will move its practice to Brunswick Station. New and existing patients who are interested in establishing a relationship with any of the three primary care providers should visit this new facility. All three health care providers, Allan J. Kaplan, MD, Michael C. MacDonald, MD, PhD, and Karen Ludwig, FNP-C are accepting new patients.
Primary Care will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call (207) 373-6848 for an appointment today.
Both offices open their doors to patients on Monday, August 8 and will offer basic diagnostic services such as on-site lab and x-ray services.
Opening the Primary Care and Walk-in Clinic in Downtown Brunswick is consistent with Maine’s State Health Plan, which encourages improved access to walk-in and primary care as a method to reduce expensive emergency room visits.
"By improving access to lower-cost walk-in services, our new facility will support efforts by local employers to decrease rising health care costs," said Skillings. “The clinics will also be linked to the health care team of primary care and specialty physicians affiliated with Mid Coast Hospital through the hospital's community electronic health record system to ensure proper coordination and communication.”
Skillings estimates the clinic could serve about 10,000 people a year.
Steven Wallace, President of the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber is pleased with this forecast as “access to high-quality, affordable health care always comes up as one of the most important reasons to choose or expand a business in a particular location.”
Mid Coast Hospital was recently awarded a Preferred ‘Tier 1’ Hospital by the Maine State Employee Health Commission. Recognized as one of just five hospitals in the state for demonstrating sustained high performance over five years, MidCoast has consistently earned high marks in quality, patient safety, and clinical experience.
