Chicken Hatch Part 5 - They're HERE!

Chicken Hatch Part 5 - They're HERE!

The chicks are here!  They arrived one day early!  All four hatched out with the most beautiful of hues and markings.  They are Auracana's so they don't look anything like their surrogate mom.  It is such a blessing to watch this miracle of life unfolding right before our eyes!  Broody accepted them right away and is doing a nice job mothering them and taking care of them!  Enjoy the video!  It's priceless!

Sagadahoc County Recognizes Birth Defects Prevention Month and Folic Acid Awareness Week

January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that, “Major birth defects are conditions that cause structural changes in one or more parts of the body; are present at birth; and have a serious, adverse effect on heath, development, or functional ability.“ Approximately one in every 33 babies is born with a birth defect.

This year, National Birth Defects Prevention Month focuses on one of the most common types of birth defects, congenital heart defects. Each year, nearly 40,000 infants in the United States are born with heart defects, which are the leading cause of death during the first year of life. As medical care and treatment have improved, those with congenital hearth defects are living longer lives.

January 8-14 is National Folic Acid Awareness Week.

Not all birth defects can be prevented.

The Creatorium- Rockland's first indie craft show... just in time for the holiday
Holiday Craft Fair
Friday Dec. 2nd from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
&
Saturday Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
@ the Lincoln Street Center Rockland's first indie craft show...
just in time for the holiday.

This will not be the church craft fair that you went to last year...trying to decide between the wooden geese, doilies and the rayon yarn vests in red and green.

This will be the juried creatives fair of Rockland, where artists, artisans, craftspeople, and foodies can sell their wares to folks who are looking for the perfect gift for friends, family and coworkers.  Maybe for themselves, too!

We will be located in the gym of the Lincoln Street Center, 24 Lincoln Street, with over 50 booths!

Riverton Trolley Park - Another Gem of the Portland Trails System!

Riverton Trolley Park - Another Gem of the Portland Trails System!

With the unseasonably warm temperatures urging me to get outside yesterday, I used my day off to explore yet another gem of the Portland Trails system with my two Labs.  A few of my customers have told me that they enjoy romping with their dogs at Riverton Trolley Park in Portland and now I can totally understand why!  What a nice place to relax, poke around and exercise the mutts!

This park is well-maintained by the Portland Trails folks and is part of the Sebago To Sea trail system as well.  Located off Route 302 as you head toward Westbrook, parking is located at the trailhead adjacent to a ball field on your left just after you take a right off 302 onto Riverside Drive at the traffic light just past Tortilla Flat and Riverton Housing Complex.  My dogs are obedient to voice commands off-leash, but I carried their leashes in case we encountered walkers who don't love dogs.
