The hidden hazards of regifting.

The hidden hazards of regifting.

So a few days ago, I wrote a little post about gift cards, and I showed off my secret stash of paper and plastic tickets to paradise.  Well, shortly after I put up the post, I was inspired to take stock of my collection and realized that this Christmas, I had received a $50 gift certificate to go see a show at a local theater.

Why I'm breaking up with Whole Foods.

Why I'm breaking up with Whole Foods.

I rarely plan to go to Whole Foods. As a relatively new vegetarian still vainly attempting to recreate meat on her dinner table, sometimes I do find myself needing to get a specific item or two that I can only find contained within their four posh and perfectly manicured walls (have you seen their produce displays?)… but very rarely. Primarily, I find that I end up there accidentally (usually with a wealthier and far more health conscious friend), as a victim of a “Do you mind if we pop into the Whole Foods for a just sec? I just need to grab some tomatillos and a cask of bulgur.” situation.

Yet however I wind up there, the result is ALWAYS THE SAME. I can literally not enter through those sliding doors for more than 1 minute, without spending at least $20 (usually, on a single 10 lb. salad). Like somehow, $20 is the cost of the ferry ride to get to the other side of the pricey health food river Styx.

Adventures in coupon clipping services.

Last week when I was writing about coupon contingency plans, I mentioned the possibility of buying coupons from an online clipping service. I’d considered it before, but always got big case of the lazy (with a side of cheap), and decided that it wasn’t worth the risk of buying a bunch of coupons that I might not ever have the occasion to use.

Woodfords Family Services & Bei Capelli team up to provide haircuts for children with autism

Woodfords Family Services & Bei Capelli team up to provide haircuts for children with autism

Westbrook, ME – Woodfords Family Services and Bei Capelli are teaming up to provide haircuts, at no cost to parents, for children with autism. Children with autism are often sensitive the sounds and environments associated with haircuts, as well as anything that touches the head, making it very difficult for parents to take their children to salons.

"Bei Capelli and the stylists are doing such an amazing thing,” Director of Early Childhood Services Laura Casey said.

Grand Opening for Summit Adventures at The Maine Mall

Summit Adventures Extreme Family Entertainment Center at The Maine Mall will have a day-long grand opening celebration on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

Events will include a live broadcast by WCYY's Rob and Curdo, a rock climbing wall in the Mall parking lot, haunted laser tag, raffles, discounts, and prizes.

Currently on a short-term lease at The Maine Mall, Summit Adventures is seeking to establish a foothold in the Greater Portland area by offering safe, active fun for kids and adults alike. A healthy alternative to video games or watching a movie, Summit Adventure's attractions provide challenging, adrenaline-pumping opportunities for their customers to scale a climbing wall, flip in the air on a bungee trampoline, battle their friends in laser tag, or walk on water in a human hamster ball.
